FLAT CREEK LODGE HUNTING AND FISHING RESORT & SPA

FLAT CREEK LODGE HUNTING AND FISHING RESORT & SPA
Providing Rustic Luxury and an Eco-friendly Environment in Southeast Georgia

WHAT
An idyllic, rustic getaway for hunting and fishing enthusiasts, Flat Creek Lodge offers much more than the typical outdoor sportsman’s location. The 2,000-acre property includes a luxurious lodge, a full-service spa overlooking a beautiful lake, new cabins and cottages that sleep up to eight individuals, a dining room featuring gourmet four- and five-course dinners, a vast boardroom, an entertaining game room and a recently opened Japanese bathhouse for healing milk baths and mineral soaks. Stocked with a wide variety of fish and game and complemented by onsite greenhouses, a micro-dairy and berry orchards, Flat Creek Lodge promotes sustainable agriculture and serves up fare from these local harvests.

WHERE Located in southeast Georgia, Flat Creek Lodge has been created out of collaborations between the property owners and members of the Emanuel County community. On the grounds of what was once cutover timberland, Flat Creek Lodge has risen through the construction of ponds, reforestation and reconstruction of historic buildings like a 1920s tenant house. Just three hours southeast of Atlanta and one-and-a-half hours from Savannah, Flat Creek Lodge seems truly a world away.

WHO Flat Creek Lodge owners Steve and Caroline Harless initially began purchasing land in Emanuel County in the mid-1990s with the idea of promoting reforestation and creating a welcoming environment for their retirement years. A decade later, the Harlesses are no closer to retirement. Instead their restoration of the property has yielded an entirely new business venture, allowing them to work in tandem with the local community and support local employment.

WHY Steve and Caroline Harless viewed their purchase of land in Emanuel County as a reverse migration back to their family’s roots. As their reforesting work progressed, they met many local residents and watched out-of-state hunters converge in southeast Georgia. Finally, one of their employees wondered aloud about the possibility of the Harlesses opening a hunting lodge. They answered the employee’s musings with the conception of Flat Creek Lodge – a venture that has benefited both the local ecology and the local economy.

HOW By employing proper wildlife management techniques, the wild game and farm-raised fish at Flat Creek Lodge are healthy, plentiful and supported by the lands. Organic farming within greenhouses and outdoors produces the Flat Creek Lodge fruits and vegetables, and honey is available from the onsite beehives. The brand new micro-dairy yields cream, butter and a line of artisanal cheese, and even the fresh eggs come from the Flat Creek Lodge Rhode Island Reds. The entire operation at Flat Creek Lodge maintains a well-planned ecological system.

Located just three hours southeast of Atlanta, Flat Creek Lodge welcomes the discerning sportsman and sportswoman to an unforgettable hunting and fishing adventure. Amid a pristine and private woodland preserve, guests can stay in the main lodge or in a private cottage.  Visitors can enjoy many outdoor activities, relax in the spa, or pamper themselves in the uniquely designed Japanese bathhouse before experiencing the cuisine in the Flat Creek Lodge Dining Room.  Menus feature fresh, seasonal herbs, fruits, and vegetables, wild game and seafood from the Golden Isles of Georgia.  Dining on Friday and Saturday evenings is four or five courses paired with just the right wine.  The 2,000-acre Flat Creek Lodge is located at 367 Bishop Chapel Church Road, Swainsboro, Georgia 30401.
